Early Wildfire Detection And Monitoring

Early Wildfire Detection and Monitoring

Wildfires are increasing dramatically around the world due to accelerating climate change. As per Natural Resources Canada, there were over 7,300 forest fires in Canada over the last 25 years, burning an average of 2.5 million hectares annually. In the United States, last year alone over 5.3 million hectares of wildland were affected by wildfires and it cost the government over 5.3 Billion dollars. These numbers are dramatically increasing now.

Wildfires may be triggered naturally, most commonly by lightning, or by human activity like unextinguished smoking materials, faulty electrical equipment, overheating automobiles, or arson.

Wildfires are costing billions of dollars for suppression and other related costs. In addition to the damage to the environment and wildlife, the pollution caused by smoke results in hundreds of thousands of deaths every year.

Early detection and suppression of wildfires help to limit this damage. But the wildfires are hard to detect. Most of the wildfire alerts originate through manual reporting by pilots, citizens, or by guards from the wildfire watchtowers. Several automated techniques have been developed for wildfire detection, including satellite detection and detection using various sensors. Satellite detection is not accurate enough or real-time, and the use of sensors and the required communication systems become very expensive due to the large areas to be monitored.

Nuvis Technologies has brought a unique AI-based computer-vision solution for the early detection of wildfires. This technique uses inexpensive normal cameras, unlike other solutions that use very expensive infrared cameras.

As a Systems Integrator, Nuvis Technologies provide the full system that includes Cameras, Remote Power Supply Systems, Remote Communication systems, Software, and Hardware along with installation, configuration, and maintenance for Early Wildfire Detection and Monitoring Solution, in Canada, the USA, and internationally.
